Religious Badges

Vernicle on linen, painted by Barbara Gordon, using oak gall and other period inks, following the methods of Cennini. $25 Each vernicle is different- please specify European or Byzantine  style. Vernicles come unhemmed, ready to sew on to your hat, approx.  9x9 cm..

Pelican-in-her-piety badge. $15 pewter with integral pin, modern enamel colours. 3.7 cm. Based on a badge in the Museum of London.

Pewter badge of St. George, with modern enamel coloring (dishwasher safe). Based on a piece from the museum of London, 14-15th century. Inscription: SCE GEORGE ORA PRO NOBIS- St. George pray for us. Integral sewing loops. Cast in a stone mould. 45mm tall. $10. Period pigments will be available as soon as we figure out which is the right temper.

Pilgrim's badge of SS. Peter and Paul, Rome. Fifteenth century. From a badge in the Musee de Cluny. 5.5cm $5

Carnival badge of zoomorphic bagpipes. From a badge in the Musee de Cluny. Fifteenth century.  4cm. $4 

Carnival hat badge in the shape of a hat. Fifteenth century. Integral pewter pin and catchplate. From a badge in the Musee de Cluny. 3cm. $5

Flying phallus badge, with integral pin. Based on a 14th century example in the Cluny Museum. Very similar badges were popular in the 15th century approx. 3cm length. This type of pin is thought to be a Mardi Gras souvenir. $6

Political badge for supporters of the Dauphinist faction. Integral pewter pin and catchplate. From a badge in the Musee de Cluny. Early fifteenth century.4.2cm. $10

Political badge for supporters of the Prince of Wales. Possibly a funerary badge. From an example in the Museum of London. Brass sheet. 3.2cm. $4

badge found in London. Pewter with modern enamel. 4.5cm, 1 3/4". Makes a
great tree ornament (includes a hanger). $9.95
